Background
The MENTOR Initiative is a “not for profit”, charitable, non-governmental organisation devoted to reducing death and suffering from malaria in humanitarian crises. The MENTOR Initiative is currently providing ongoing emergency support to the most vulnerable communities in Liberia, Angola, Kenya, Somalia, the Central African Republic and Eastern and Southern Chad.

Scope of Services:

This important role will cover two levels of responsibility to help ensure tight planning and implementation of the organisations responses in Somalia and Kenya:
• The Horn of Africa (HoA) Emergency Response Director (ERD) will coordinate the MENTOR Initiative emergency responses to the threat of flooding and vector borne disease (VBD) epidemics in HoA.

• For Somalia, the ERD will serve as the Country Director with overall responsibility for all aspects of the MENTOR Initiative’s work. In this role, the ERD will receive significant support (as required) from the Kenya MENTOR team for planning and operational activities for Somalia, that reply upon services, logistics, security issues and access through Kenya.

• In Kenya, the ERD will support the Kenya Country Director to achieve the organisations planned emergency responses in refugee camps and Kenyan communities, assess new threats and response needs and ensure the technical co-ordination of the VBD activities delivered.

This post will work with MoH, UNHCR, other UN agencies, NGO and FBO teams to help ensure that all vulnerable host, IDP and refugee populations in programme target areas, have access to effective malaria prevention as well as quality malaria diagnostic and case management services.

European instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) – Country-Based Support Scheme

The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Kenya is seeking proposals for actions in Kenya with financial assistance from the "EIDHR" thematic budget line.
In order to be eligible for a grant, applicants must:
·     be legal persons and

·     be non profit making and

·     belong to one of the following bodies and actors as defined per Article 10 of the EIDHR Regulation which can operate in an independent and accountable way (having legal personality) :
                 i.    Civil society organisations, including non-governmental organisations and independent political foundations and private sector agencies, institutions and organisations and networks thereof at local, national, regional and international level.
                ii.    National regional and international parliamentary bodies.

·     be nationals of the beneficiary country (i.e. Kenya), of a developing country as specified by the OECD/DAC, of an accession or official candidate country as recognised by the European Union, of a Member State of the European Economic Area or of legal persons as regulated by the Financing Instrument (Regulation N° 1889/2006) establishing EIDHR;

·     be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with their partners, not acting as an intermediary.

Programme Manager Job Description
We are seeking exceptional professionals with 4-6 years work experience for our program manager role, and demonstrated interest and experience in international development (i.e. 1 year+ living in a developing nation). They will serve in a career-track position that combines both field and management experience in Africa. As a young organization, we are ready to hand over large responsibility for specific, well-defined work modules, with similar structure to an operations consulting role.
Projects will be focused on improvements to One Acre Fund's program model - as opposed to day-to-day operations, which are operated by our country staff. The typical program manager leads several major projects, and several smaller ones - typically projects with higher degree of difficulty.

Qualifications
We are looking for somebody truly extraordinary for the program manager role. This is an extremely competitive posting for a business/ management-style position. Fewer than 5% make of applicants make it to a phone screen. Therefore, please only apply if you fit these criteria:
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in international development, requiring at least one year of living in a developing nation.
  • A willingness to commit to living in rural areas of East Africa for at least two years, minimum. This is a permanent, career-track role with no anticipated return to your home country.
  • Top-performing undergraduate background (include GPA and test scores on your resume)
  •  Strong work experiences. Examples include professional work experience, or some kind of successful entrepreneurial experience (e.g. starting a field program in a developing country, leading a conference, starting a business, peace corps)

  • No ego or drama. We are all stable people who are fun to be around. We are looking for others that combine strong leadership skills with a humble approach to service
  • Nice to have: Kiswahili a plus; Kinyrwandan or French required for Rwanda. English required.

 Compensation: Starts very modest. However, this is a career-track role with fast raises for performance, eventually paying a real and livable salary for a long-term placement in developing nations.
