 Scope:
The Grants intern will be part of the Program/Grants management team led by the Deputy Director of Programs.  The Grants intern will be supervised by the Grants Coordinator but while in Kakuma, supervisory support will be provided from the Health Team Leader. The Grants intern will be based at the IRC compound in Kakuma Refugee Camp. 
 Responsibilities:
  • Contributing to efficient grants management including proposal development, reporting and grants monitoring roles.
  • Identify and work for a specific ‘Special Project’ bringing his/her core skills and motivation to the same.
  • Development of concept notes, donor proposals
  • Preparation of donor reports, internal IRC reports
  • Perform grants management functions including, updating the Grant Tracking Sheet and the T1s
  • Maintaining updated information in electronic and hard copy files, this will include agreements, proposals, reports and other relevant communication regarding the grant.
  • Share information with field teams
  • Review program monthly reports
  • Maintain updated information related to IRC Kenya and its programs to be shared with donors, Government and IRC head quarters as necessary
  • Travel to field sites, participate in activities as necessary
  • Organize and coordinate events-World HIV/Aids Day, Refugee Day, Peace Day etc. commemorated by the organization.
 Requirements:
  • University Degree.
  • Computer Skills- Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and work with teams based in Nairobi and field sites.

CHF is designing a proactive response to potential strife among ethnic and political divisions associated with the implementation of the new constitution and the 2012 electoral process, and is currently seeking a Program Director for a proposed Conflict Mitigation and Reconciliation Program designed to lessen the potential for violence and resolve differences peacefully. 
The Program Director will be responsible for managing the program; ensuring proper project planning, budget management and compliance; developing detailed work plans and ensuring effective coordination and integration of activities resolving challenges and obstacles.  Additionally, the Program Director will oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation plan; develop and lead baseline and other assessments; and review reports and initiate corrective measures.
 Qualifications 
  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Minimum eight years of project management experience working on donor funded projects in the areas of civic education, community outreach, the “People to People” approach, peace-building and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex program outputs with strict deadlines, and effecting strong coordination through clusters, donors, and peer agencies.
  • In-depth knowledge of USAID rules and regulations.
  • A good working knowledge of community resilience and disaster risk reduction relating to humanitarian, development and policy work.
  • An existing network of high-level contacts will be advantageous.

About IRC
Since its inception in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been a global leader in emergency response and providing durable solutions for conflict- and crisis-affected populations. The IRC launched conflict mitigation and peace building initiatives in Kenya in the immediate aftermath of the post-election crisis, and has in addition initiated activities that support cross border conflict management and peace building in the northern part of Kenya (Turkana and Pokot) and Karamoja region in Uganda. 
  
IRC is currently preparing a proposal in response to a USAID/DCHA/CMM request for applications to support a people to people approach on conflict mitigation to deal with potential conflict emanating from upcoming and ongoing political processes and events in Kenya including the ICC process, the implementation of the new constitution and the upcoming general elections in 2012. The Project Director will be responsible for overall project management, supervision, administration, and implementation of project objectives including granting and procurement activities. Additionally, the Project Director will be the overall lead for the project, ensuring programmatic quality and adherence to best practice throughout project implementation.


*Position is contingent upon award of contract.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall direction and planning and management of project, including technical, financial and administrative oversight
  • Oversee all sub-granting procurement activities
  • Manage project staff members based both within IRC and with project partners to ensure work plans are followed
  • Lead advocacy efforts for policy and legislative changes relating to peace building and conflict management
  • Supervise sub-grantee performance and implementation
  • Establish and maintain systems for monitoring and evaluating project operations throughout the project time span.
  • Ensure that all cooperative agreement deadlines are met and targets achieved according to grant specifications and program work plans
  • Maintain working relationships with partners and donors to enhance program integration and implementation
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of high quality progress and financial reports to the donor
  • Representational duties with USAID, Kenyan government and other stakeholders
  • Participate in working group meetings, and other coordination mechanisms, at both the local, district, and national level
 Requirements:
  • Master’s Degree or higher in social work (MSW), humanities, international affairs, other related field
  • Minimum of five-seven years of professional experience in a leadership role implementing and overseeing complex programs in a humanitarian or development context
  • Experience in conflict, leadership, and peace programming at the local and national level
  • Knowledge and or experience with a people to people approach to peace building is a must
  • Exceptional gender, GBV, leadership, and other sector-specific technical skills and knowledge
  • Experience working and coordinating with government bodies and local actors in a complex and changing environment
  • Experience managing US Government-funded projects is highly desired
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in complex program design and monitoring
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning and implementation skills
  • Ability and interest to work with a diverse and multicultural team in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development. ILRI is one of 15 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ILRI has campuses in Kenya (headquarters) and Ethiopia, with other offices located in other regions of Africa (Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria) as well as in South Asia (India, Sri Lanka), Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, Vietnam) and East Asia (China).
ILRI seeks to recruit a dynamic and competent Programme Management Officer to work within the Sustainable Livestock Futures Group and the CGIAR Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security Programme. The person will work closely with various ILRI departments and Units (Finance & Administration, HR, ICT, Resource Mobilization, Intellectual Property, etc).

Responsibilities
1)    Budgets and Accounting

  • Preparation of budgets and grant applications
  • Management of Grants and Sub-Grants
  • Monthly and quarterly budget and expense monitoring
  • Preparation of financial reports and;
  • Working with the finance department to ensure that all financial reports prepared conform to ILRI and donor guidelines
2)    Research Management
  • Reviewing and drafting documents (e.g. concept papers, proposals and reports) to check conformity to agreed templates and donor requirements
  • Maintaining  a tracking system to monitor project milestones and status of deliverables and providing reports of these to project leaders
  • Preparing periodic reports to program leaders on resource mobilization and staff time allocation, as required
3)    Support program communication
  • Coordinating presentations for annual reports, annual planning meeting, internal/external reviews and maintain databases of projects, collaborators and donors
  • Preparing and maintaining program web pages on internet and intranet; Facilitating links with other communication functions at ILRI
  • Organizing /co-ordinating workshops/conferences
4)    Office Management
  • Development of efficient filing systems and databases for print and electronic files/documents
  • Provide oversight on data archive for Projects
  • Oversee contracting of consultants and letters of agreements with partners
  • Oversee the management  and procurement of assets assigned to the programs
Requirements
  • Master’s degree (MPA, MBA, MSc.) and a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Economics, Business Administration, Management, Commerce)
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience respectively.
  • CPA 11 or ACCA Level 1 qualification
  • Extensive experience in financial management and budgeting for complex, multi-donor projects and programs.

Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is open to Kenyan nationals only.  The position is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
