COMMUNICATION INTERN

Forum Syd’s Kenya Country Office (Nairobi) is looking for a communications Intern to perform the following tasks:

Communications Roles

1. Update website content
2.  Produce stories for the website on the programmes in Kenya and Project Support Activities in Africa.
3. Contribute to the development of printed communication materials, including editing images/photos and layout.
4. Assist in the production and editing of small in-house videos and documentaries.
5.  Supporting Forum Syd’s social media activity with information about project activities and events
6. Assisting in writing press releases and blog entries
7. Assist in the creation and organization and updating of photo library and creation of video library
8. Assist in the creation of communication routines for the Country Office inline Forum Syd policies.
9.  Helping with the production and editing of reports and presentations.
10.  Helping to compile media lists for specific projects
11.  Assist in the organization of various communication and visibility events.
12. Assist in the distributing awareness-raising materials to partners, members of the public and other organizations
13.  Other tasks may include: general administrative and computers maintenance

• Master’s degree business, finance or a related field required;
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience working in emerging markets;
• Minimum 7 years in in venture capitalism, finance or related field;
• Previous experience in programs or initiatives that have engaged women in business initiatives and development activities preferred;
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Previous experience in East Africa or Kenya preferred.

• Contribute to the analysis of underlying causes of poverty and support the launching of Pathways programs with particular emphasis on sustainable intensification and gender sensitive agriculture for the relevant impact groups, particularly women and youth.
• Help CARE staff and partners to understand the actual and potential roles of sustainable agriculture for the country office impact groups and long term agriculture and food security programs.
• Integrate sustainable agriculture approaches with CARE’s economic development and market engagement strategy in agriculture-related programs.
• Ensure sustainability criteria are well integrated into market-led and agriculture value chain development initiatives and both are gender sensitive.
• Work closely with CARE’s Climate Change Team to incorporate climate change adaptation and mitigation elements into Pathways programs.
• Work closely with resource development, country offices, Pathways team and CARE International members to increase funding for Pathways countries from foundations, corporations, and other donors.
• Facilitate and support a strong learning and knowledge sharing community around sustainable agriculture practices in CARE
• Serve as a key spokesperson on issues related to agricultural production policy and programming in women’s equitable engagement and sustainability in agriculture.
• Represent CARE’s work in Sustainable Agriculture under the Pathways Program in relevant internal and external forums.

• Producing both written and oral briefs for colleagues and stakeholders , based on reviews of research evidence
• Responding to external and internal research enquiries from colleagues,  and stakeholders
• Support the PAN secretariat in design and use of an M&E system for the organization.
• Keeping up to date with developments in policy and social issues, as well as qualitative and quantitative research methods;
• Delivering presentations at conferences/ meetings

• Provide strategic leadership and direction, define and implement activities to achieve the greatest coverage and impact possible;
• Review, in coordination with key project staff, yearly work and performance plans to ensure long-term and short-term priorities are on track;
• Manage the overall project by planning, monitoring and evaluating project activities in accordance with the cooperative agreement;
• Manage relations with consortium partners, and oversee relations with all other project partners, including RTG ministries, non-governmental organizations and community-based organizations;
• Ensure strong collaborative partner relationships - based on principles of mutual trust and respect, mutual accountability, reciprocity, inclusion and transparency – with all project partners throughout the life of the project;
• Ensure that the sub-grant award and monitoring process is aligned with project goals and objectives;
• Host the Project Management Group and the Project Advisory Committee, chairing both fora on behalf of IRC as appropriate;
• Lead responsibility for ensuring the achievement of the core HADPB project objective of supporting a staged transition of project leadership and management of service delivery systems to self-sustaining local partners, while providing healthcare, education, food and other humanitarian assistance in ways which are impactful, cost-effective, and strengthen the resiliencies of the most vulnerable persons from Burma;
• Ensure that project initiatives appropriately address the needs of the most vulnerable beneficiary population in the most efficient, cost-effective manner;
