About the Finnish NGO Foundation for Human Rights- KIOS
The Finnish NGO Foundation for Human Rights KIOS is a consortium of eleven Finnish organisations working for human rights and development issues. KIOS was founded in 1998 to fund projects promoting human rights and development of democracy. KIOS is an independent, non-political, non-religious and non-governmental foundation.
Founding organisations are Amnesty International Finnish Section, Committee of 100 in Finland, Finn Church Aid, Finnish Disabled People’s International Development Association (FIDIDA), Finnish League for Human Rights, Finnish Peace Committee, Finnish Refugee Council, UN Association of Finland, Service Centre for Development Cooperation (KEPA), Finnish National Committee for UNICEF and The National Committee for UN Women in Finland.
KIOS promotes the realisation of human rights in developing countries as they are defined in the human rights treaties and instruments of the United Nations and the Council of Europe and in other correspondent regional human rights instruments.
Who Can Apply?
- Local civil society organisations in KIOS focus countries.
- Working groups and networks of civil society organisations working on human rights issues in KIOS focus countries.
- In exceptional cases civil society organisations in exile may be supported, and only if their activities are targeted at a KIOS focus country.
Organisation may have only one ongoing project funded by KIOS at a time.
Organisations previously funded by KIOS can apply for new funding, but only after the previous project funded by KIOS has been completed. Each application will go through the same assessment process, whether applicant has received previous funding from KIOS or not.

Who Can Not Apply?
KIOS does not provide funding for:
- Individuals
- International non-governmental organisations
- For-profit entities
- Religious communities
- Political parties
- Governmental (whether national or local) bodies
- Exiled civil society organisations based in the Nordic countries
Funding Criteria

Type of projects funded
KIOS supports human rights projects of civil society organisations.
Typical projects funded by KIOS include:
- Human rights campaigning, lobbying and advocacy
- Human rights monitoring and documentation
- Human rights awareness raising and education
- Providing legal aid
- Capacity building
Funding is not granted for development work, educational projects (unless human rights education), social work, humanitarian aid, research projects or socio-economic support for marginalized groups. Furthermore, KIOS does not grant scholarships, fellowships, or financial support for conferences or travelling.
How to Apply
Applications accepted continuously
KIOS holds an open invitation for applicants. Funding applications are accepted throughout the year. There is no deadline for application submissions.
Only one application per organisation will be considered at any one time.
The first KIOS grant can be for a one year (or shorter) project.
We register only complete applications, and kindly ask you not to send any concept papers.

KIOS accepts only applications submitted on KIOS Application Form. The Application Form can be downloaded from here. The form can also be obtained from the KIOS office via email at kios@kios.fi.

This is a call for applications for grantees to organise activities on World AIDS Day, which is marked on the 1st of December every year. In order for African Women Development Fund (AWDF) to consider your request for support in organising World AIDS Day activities, please follow the guidelines as indicated in the website.
Maximum of grant disbursed for this call for proposal is US$1,000. Grantees will be expected to send in a report of your activities and expected impact.

2011 Call for Proposals- European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR)
Objective of EIDHR
The general objective of the EIDHR is to contribute to the development and consolidation of democracy and the rule of law and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms, consistent with the European Union’s foreign policy as a whole.
This instrument is designed to help civil society to become an effective force for political reform and defence of human rights. In doing this, it aims to complement the geographical programmes that work through direct cooperation with governments and mostly focus on public institution-building.
This call for proposals is launched under Objective 2 - "strengthening the role of civil society in humanrights and democratic reform, in facilitating the peaceful conciliation of group interests and in consolidating political participation and representation"; and Objective 3 – "Supporting actions on human rights and democracy issues in areas covered by EU Guidelines, including on the death penalty" of the EIDHR Strategy
The specific objectives of the call for proposal are:
(1) For lot 1 - to assist civil society networks in countries outside the EU where these organisations benefit from a relatively open space to operate through transnational (regional and global) activities.
(2) For lot 2 - to support activities aiming to restrict the number of offences for which the death penalty may be imposed; to insist on the application of the minimum standards when an execution is carried out; to advocate the establishment of a moratorium on executions, with a view to the eventual abolition of the death penalty. The EIDHR will support actions which foresee an integrated approach to the fight against the death penalty.

THEME: From Haki Yetu to Jukumu Langu!
UNDP Kenya and a number of Development Partners- European Union Delegation in Kenya, Embassy of Norway, Embassy of Sweden and the Embassy of The Netherlands- have established a Civil Society Democratic Governance Facility known as Amkeni Wakenya. This Facility aims to support the country in its efforts to uphold democratic governance, human rights and the rule of law through enhanced empowerment of the people and strengthening of relevant governance institutions
Under its Strategic Plan for 2011- 2015, Amkeni Wakenya intends to support citizen awareness and engagement in the development and implementation of laws and policies in three (3) strategic areas: Access to Justice, Local governance/Devolution, and Human Rights.
The call for proposals is open to local Civil Society Organizations duly registered in Kenya.

Background
The UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women is accepting applications for its 15th grant cycle (2010) from government authorities at the national and local levels, civil society organizations and networks — including non-governmental, women’s and community-based organizations and coalitions and operational research institutions — and UN Country Teams in partnership with governments and civil society organizations. Applications should be centred on supporting implementation of national and local policies, laws and action plans on ending violence against women.
Eligibility
Who can apply?
Applicants from, or working in, countries and/or territories in the “List of Eligible Countries” (Click here for a list of eligible countries) ) as follows:
· Government authorities at central/national, sub-national and/or local levels, including National Women’s Machineries and other sectoral Ministries. A government entity may either apply individually or as part of a UN Country Team proposal, but not both.
· Civil society organizations and networks, including non-governmental organizations that are legally registered in the country of implementation.
· Regional/international civil society organizations and networks that have national presence in the country(ies) and/or territory(ies) of implementation. In this case, the proposal must indicate how the proposed interventions will contribute to national capacity development and ownership of national and local organizations in the implementation.
· Operational research/evaluation institutions specialized in gender equality and gender-based violence.
· UN Country Teams (UNCTs) are eligible where requested by the government and in partnership with women’s groups, organizations and/or networks, as well as with other civil society organizations (see the box below). Only one application per country is permitted.
Proposals should reflect partnerships among government and civil society. Proposals from more than one organization or entity as co-applicants must clearly indicate which organization will take lead responsibility for project management and contractual obligations.
