2011 Call for Proposals- European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR)
Objective of EIDHR
The general objective of the EIDHR is to contribute to the development and consolidation of democracy and the rule of law and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms, consistent with the European Union’s foreign policy as a whole.
This instrument is designed to help civil society to become an effective force for political reform and defence of human rights. In doing this, it aims to complement the geographical programmes that work through direct cooperation with governments and mostly focus on public institution-building.
This call for proposals is launched under Objective 2 - "strengthening the role of civil society in humanrights and democratic reform, in facilitating the peaceful conciliation of group interests and in consolidating political participation and representation"; and Objective 3 – "Supporting actions on human rights and democracy issues in areas covered by EU Guidelines, including on the death penalty" of the EIDHR Strategy
The specific objectives of the call for proposal are:
(1) For lot 1 - to assist civil society networks in countries outside the EU where these organisations benefit from a relatively open space to operate through transnational (regional and global) activities.
(2) For lot 2 - to support activities aiming to restrict the number of offences for which the death penalty may be imposed; to insist on the application of the minimum standards when an execution is carried out; to advocate the establishment of a moratorium on executions, with a view to the eventual abolition of the death penalty. The EIDHR will support actions which foresee an integrated approach to the fight against the death penalty.

The Embassy of Finland in Lusaka hereby invites Zambian organisations, institutions and companies to submit project proposals to the Fund for Local Cooperation. Projects shall contribute to any of the Fund’s objectives, namely:
Good governance
1. Promote transparency and accountability in development policies and programmes through anti-corruption efforts and projects enhancing public participation

On November 15, the United Nations Democracy Fund will opened its window for new project proposals from civil society. The call for applications follows the approval by the UNDEF Advisory Board for a Fifth Round of Funding.
Project proposals may be submitted on-line between 15 November 2009 and 31 December 2010.
Only on-line applications in either English or French will be accepted.
UNDEF supports projects that strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes.
The large majority of UNDEF funds go to local civil society organizations -- both in the transition and consolidation phases of democratization in and regions where the challenges of democracy are more critical, such as countries emerging from conflict, new and restored democracies, the Least Developed Countries, Low-Income countries and Middle Income Countries.
In four Rounds of Funding so far, UNDEF has supported more than 330 projects in 115 countries at a total amount of US$93 million. UNDEF provides grants of up to US$500,000 per project.
Applications are subject to a highly rigorous and competitive selection process, with about three per cent of all applications approved for funding. Projects are two years long and fall under one or more of six main areas:
· Community development
· Rule of law and human rights
· Tools for democratization
· Women
· Youth
· Media

US Govt Grants| 2011 Funding Opportunity| NGOs in Kenya and Yemen
Submission Deadline: November 23rd 2010
Proposed Program Start date: January 1 – March 1, 2011
Duration of Action: not more than 12 months
Funding amounts:
In the range of $100,000 to $2,000,000; any submissions over this amount will automatically be disqualified.
Programs will benefit refugees in Kenya and Yemen
Proposals for Kenya may focus on protection, health (including support for disabled persons), water, sanitation, shelter, community services, psychosocial support, prevention of and response to gender-based violence, education, and livelihoods development (including vocational education) in a camp environment. Please note there will be no separate call for GBV programs for FY 2011.
For Yemen
Organizations not registered with Grants.gov should register well in advance of the November 23 deadline as it can take up to two weeks to finalize registration (sometimes longer for non-U.S.-based NGOs to get the required registration numbers). To register with Grants.gov, organizations must first receive a DUNS number and register with the Central Contract Registry (CCR) which can take weeks and sometimes months.
