Born in 1930, Prince Baudouin of Belgium succeeded his father, King Leopold III, in 1951. The King Baudouin Foundation is independent and pluralistic. It was founded in 1976 to mark the 25th anniversary of King Baudouin’s reign
The King Baudouin African Development Prize rewards outstanding contributions of individuals or organizations in the development field in Africa.
The Prize spotlights innovative initiatives which improve quality-of-life and empower local communities to take development into their own hands
True to the personality and values which inspired its creation, the aim of the King Baudouin African Development Prize is to acknowledge the work of persons or organisations which have made an exemplary contribution to development in Africa. It also seeks to draw public attention to the many inspirational stories of hope, struggle and success which emanate from the development field in Africa.
Who qualifies as a candidate?                       
  • The candidate must be either an individual or an organisation
  • Several individuals or organisations that are not structurally linked cannot be presented as one single candidacy.
  • A former Prize winner may not be submitted a second time as a candidate. If a candidate was not withheld, it may however be submitted again for a next Prize.
Who can submit a candidacy?
The submission of a candidate’s file may only be undertaken by a qualified nominator. The selection committee will not consider applications by individuals who are applying for the Prize themselves or for an organization within which they are active.
How to submit a candidacy?
Candidacies must be submitted using the electronic form below by 15 February 2012 at the latest.
The Prize has a monetary value of 150,000 euros and will be awarded to the winners during the spring of 2013 at the Royal Palace in Brussels.

The main aim of the Zambia Economic Resilience for Improved Food Security Program (ZERS) is to enhance coping skills, build assets, and increase rural income for 50,000 vulnerable and poor households in Eastern Province. This will contribute to MDG 1 of halving the proportion of Zambians living in extreme poverty and suffering from hunger by 2015.

The United States Of America Agency for International Development Mission in Zambia (USAID/Zambia) is therefore calling for applications under the ZERS program. ZERS will be a core activity in implementing U.S. President Obama’s Feed the Future (FTF) global hunger and food security initiative in Zambia. ZERS will contribute to FTF’s overarching goal to sustainably reduce global hunger and poverty by tackling their root causes and employing proven strategies for achieving large scale and lasting impact.
Total grants available amount to $24,000,000 over 5 years. $20,000,000 of these funds is for economic resilience and nutrition activities while about $4,000,000 is for HIV/AIDS related components.

2011-2012 Call for proposals/Funds & Grants for good governance for Organizations in Africa


The Transparency and Accountability Program (TAP) is pleased to announce the opening of their latest request for proposals.  In the newest phase of their Grants Program, TAP will sponsor up to ten (10) organizations to design and implement citizen report cards and related advocacy work that focus on improving how money is being spent and how services are being delivered in the health and education sectors at the national, sub-national, and/or local level in their countries.  Application to the Grants Program is open to any non-government organization from target countries in sub-Saharan African (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda)
