2011/12 International Scholarships for Professionals & Students in Developing Nations-VLIR-UOS Belgium

About VLIR-OUS
VLIR-UOS funds and facilitates academic cooperation and exchange between higher education institutions in Flanders (Belgium) and those in developing countries, which aims at building capacity, knowledge and experience for a sustainable development. As part of the Flemish Interuniversity Council, VLIR-UOS is responsible for managing and dispersing the university development cooperation funds of Belgium’s Minister of Development Cooperation.

 Every year, VLIR-UOS awards up to 180 scholarships to first-year master students.

The International Training programmes are specifically designed for people in positions of responsibility in civil society (e.g. universities, schools, NGOs, local communities, governments).

The target group for
master programmes comprises students from developing countries.
 Every programme has specific admission requirements, however, relevant professional experience and prospects for applying the acquired skills and knowledge in the student’s country are considered.

Applications for 2011-2012 began on October 1, 2010

Designed for people in positions of responsibility in civil society (e.g. universities, schools, NGOs, local communities, governments) These programmes are tailored to people from developing countries with a certain degree of professional experience

PHD programmes (10)
Awarded to promising graduates of ICP master programmes (above)  to study for a PhD at a Flemish university. ICPs are master programmes that receive institutional support from VLIR-UOS Up to ten ICP PhD scholarships can be granted every academic year to excellent ICP graduates from a developing country.
